I've recently begun making ATC's for a number of of reasons. From time to time I will post them here and if anyone wishes to exchange they should let me know in the comments for that post and we can arrange to exchange.

She's At It Again

I am prone to complacency (polite term for laziness).

Artmixter has a horrible effect on me. She wakes me up and makes me think and makes me do Not that I don't willingly participate, but sheesh, what's a lazy man to do?

She's into copying and "restructuring" and creating new work in the process.

She's doing it manually, but I thought I'd do it digitally. If I scan the work into Paint Shop Pro, I can turn it into a grayscale (a black and white) without ever using any papger or cloth until I'm ready. But I must admit, it is also fun to do it manually at the photocopier or scanner. Anyway, the original digital painting, and the greyscale. More to come

Fabric postcard

Inaminuteago is sponsoring a fabric postcard challenge. This is my first made foir January. Auto, freemotion, and hand and bead embroidery on cotton printed digitally, mounted on pellon and lightly waxed.

No argument here.

I wonder how many people there are out there who, like me, can't afford the City and Guilds. I wonder, excluding myself, how much talent is wasted. C&G, like Art Quilting in the US, and thsi statement is no negaive reflection on the participants, is largely the stomping grounds of the welathy and upper middle classes.

I think abo9ut creating an online and correspondence open college of this type to teach and share the information and lead to certgificate and diplomas with structured syllabuses. the information and talent is out there.

If the question were asked, "what is the source of improvisation?" within the context of Greek mythology, I daresay, *knowing this is unlikely to occur during happy hour after work), the answer most people would give would be the Muses. (No, it wouldn't. Most people would ignore the question not being interested) I would argue that answer would be that the muses are the source of inspiration, but it is Dionysius who rules improvisation.

The Muses are subject to Apollo, and he is way too rigid and rule-bound to allow such freedom.

Of course, Dionysius is ecstatic in nature and there would be a feminine spirit or goddess behind that ecstasy. The analytical male or left brain would never allow it. Analytical Psychology co9ld make much of this, but that isn't the point.

Hmmm, what is the point? Ah yes, improvisation and process.

And sew it begins .....

After having endured many years of technique addiction -

"technique addiction or junkism" - the merry chase of adding multiple techniques to the personal repertoire at the expense of concentration or focus on one style or technique

I have now concluded that there is a cure for this - improvisation and that there are no failures, only samples.

Barococo or "kitchen sink designing"

Can improvisation be learned or taught? Does art require statement or content description by the artist or is this a development of the academic necessity for measurement of achievement toward a degree. Only when art was removed from the workshop and placed in the college arena did this intellectualization begin.

If there are answers to these questions they are probably not important. Only the process is.
